BBL – BroadBand Light

Comprehensive Skin Rejuvenation and Treatment

BroadBand Light (BBL) is an innovative technology increasingly used in aesthetic dermatology. It utilizes light energy with wavelengths ranging from 400 nm to 1400 nm to treat a wide variety of skin concerns, including superficial and deep hyperpigmentation, fine blood vessels, redness, rosacea and acne, as well as all aspects related to the skin aging process.

This therapy not only improves the appearance of the skin but also works at the cellular level, triggering a process of gene rejuvenation. As a result, it can significantly slow down skin aging and revolutionize anti-aging prevention.

Thanks to the use of appropriate filters, BBL achieves the effect of selective photothermolysis, which—compared to other previously used technologies—shortens recovery time, reduces the risk of skin damage and post-treatment discoloration, while still delivering highly satisfactory clinical results.

The possibility of personalized treatment makes this technology one of the most advanced tools in aesthetic medicine. Proper selection of treatment parameters allows the procedure to be performed almost year-round, even in patients with darker skin phototypes.

Indications:

  • hyperpigmentation and sun spots

  • redness

  • acne

  • uneven skin tone

  • wrinkles and fine lines

  • photoaging

  • loss of skin firmness

Contraindications:

  • recent, intense tanning or an upcoming vacation involving sun exposure
(at least one month should pass after sun exposure and one month before the next tanning)

  • use of photosensitizing medications, including non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (e.g. ibuprofen), antidepressants, aspirin
(regularly taken medications should be discontinued two weeks prior to treatment; prescription medications must be consulted with the attending physician before discontinuation)

  • use of photosensitizing dietary supplements, e.g. vitamin A, turmeric
(it is recommended to discontinue all supplements two weeks prior to treatment)

  • use of herbal substances, including calendula, chamomile, wild pansy, multi-ingredient herbal teas, Earl Grey tea
(discontinue two weeks prior to treatment)

  • use of cosmetics containing retinol/retinal, high-concentration vitamin C (20%), AHA/BHA acids
(must be discontinued two weeks before treatment)

  • professional exfoliating treatments
(a waiting period of one month is required)

  • malignant cancer

  • vitiligo, psoriasis

  • pregnancy and breastfeeding

  • herpes simplex (cold sores)

  • epilepsy

  • blood clotting disorders

  • tendency to form keloid scars

  • active skin infections at the treatment site (fungal, viral, bacterial)

  • use of bronzing lotions or self-tanners

Important:
Light-based therapies should ideally be performed before aesthetic medicine procedures such as botulinum toxin injections or hyaluronic acid fillers, as the heat delivered to the skin may shorten their duration of effect.

Pre-treatment Recommendations:

  • Avoid sun exposure and tanning

  • Discontinue the use of strong exfoliating products and retinoid-containing cosmetics

  • Avoid using photosensitizing medications and dietary supplements

Post-treatment Recommendations:

  • Ensure proper skin care by using moisturizing and soothing creams

  • Apply high sun protection (SPF 50+) regularly

  • Avoid intense sun exposure

How long do the effects of the treatment last?

The results of the treatment are long-lasting. Proper skin care, including sun protection, is essential to maintain the achieved results at the highest level.

For optimal therapeutic outcomes, we recommend a series of 3–4 treatments per year. The number of sessions and the intervals between them are determined individually during a consultation.
